Where do I even start This book is fantastic If you loved Hunger Games, The Maze Runner and Divergent then this is totally up your street.Such an incredible, original idea that kept me hooked from the beginning I m not into spoilers, so what I will say is that if you want to be in the position where you cannot put book down, then this is the one for you The characters have that innocence that is so compelling in the beginning, and then everything starts to unfold and you just cant keep up Everything blends and connects in such a perfect wayand that ending, i did not even consider that when i was reading it and that made me so happy To not anticipate an ending is what makes reading such a pleasure.I would recommend this to everyone I cannot wait to read number two I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review I was not real sure about this books since it does have that Dystopian feel, but surprisingly I enjoy the book A LOT I found it to be very engaging, and very fluid.SynopsisHER FIRST EIGHTEEN YEARS WERE FILLED WITH LIES SHE IS ABOUT TO DISCOVER THE TRUTH Eighteen year old Seven and her best friend, Ten, live where all is peaceful except for the violent war raging above the sky Lifelike humanoid robots and self operated drones tend to everyone s needs, leaving people free to spend their time stimulating their minds and enjoying life s pleasures But there are strict rules and few choices Every year, on Assignment Day, the path of each eighteen year old s life is laid out Some are given the jobs for which they have shown exceptional aptitude and are paired for mating The others are sent off to fight in The War and never return When Assignment Day comes for Seven, the assignments shatter everything she s ever believed The rules force everyone to accept their fates, but Seven decides to do something unprecedented to go against the Decision Makers wishes I really enjoyed the plot to this story, it had quite the different feel than most dystopian and that, to me, is a good thing I also thought that the world building was good as well There was some great imagery that allows the reader to place themselves in the story There were some twists that were pretty awesome too I have to say that it was pretty unpredictable because I did not expect where this story went to at all and I love that I feel as though this was left off in a place where a sequel might come into play, so yea the story feels a bit unfinished but will be worth it if there is a sequel.I really enjoyed the characters a lot as well, I found them to be pretty well developed and that is so important Some of them surprised me quite a bit in the aspect of thinking that they would be different or would turn out differently than I thought they would initially I think probably Seven and Ten were my favorite characters for obvious reasons I think there are a lot of great characters though.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes Dystopian first off, but even if there are those who don t like dystopian may be able to enjoy this one If there are to be any books to make this a series, I would definitely read any of them. Loved it I m a huge fan of dystopian type stories, so that aspect of this book was super great, and even though dystopian is a popular story to write at this time, I still felt that this book was unique enough that I didn t feel like I have read it before Seven is our lead for the story, and the entire book is from her point of view, she s just turning 18, and it s time for her to be assigned a job and a mate, well as long as she s not chosen to be a warrior The warriors are sent to the surface where there is a war that is suppose to be going on all the residents of Seven s home are rather kept in the dark about anything that is really going on, and the residents don t question anything The place Seven is from is sheltered, and the rules are strict people aren t even allowed to touch until they are mated and only in private I loved that there are robots around town, and I love that the story felt futuristic, but still heartfelt Seven has a close friendship with a friend from her childhood, his name is Ten, and I absolutely loved their relationship, its strong and they both really get each other I couldn t put the book down I just wanted to keep reading until I finished it, and I lost out on plenty of sleep because of this book, but it was surely worth it I loved the training scenes, and all the scenes between Ten and Seven I m not super crazy about what happens towards the end, and I m not thrilled that I have to wait to find out what happens until the next book, but I highly recommend this book Truly excellent read 5 Stars Unputdownable I was supposed to be Adulting yesterdayI still have so many things to do since we ve moved here namely upacking the 5 billion boxes still stacked in the garage I started this book during what was supposed to be a short break and then had to tear myself away from the book an indeterminate amount of time later when I realized that I do, in fact, have kids AND they require feedings Above the Sky has an Ender s Game mixed with Divergent feel to it and I couldn t stop reading.I hate trumpeting so loudly for a book in a trilogy that I haven t finished yet, but I can t believe that I had never heard of this book before now My review schedule is running a bit behind right now because of the move but I may have to push a few things aside so that I can satisfy my need to finish this trilogy It is THAT good.I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review. I started reading this with little to no knowledge of dystopian novels So starting with a clean slate I believe Jenny did a phenomenal job I didn t want to put it down then entire time I was reading When I did put it down it s all I could think about I still can t stop thinking about it The unique aspect to it as far as I can tell drew me in like no others The fact that I was feeling the emotions of the characters while reading was enchanting So many twists and turns while answering all my questions as I read Seven and Ten growing from being naive little kids to being protectors, warriors, and lovers I loved fallowing their path and I hope we see off them in the future. Review Above the Sky by Jenny LynneHere is a blurb of what the book is about It is a story about a girl named Seven and her best friend Ten They live where all is peaceful Except there is a war going on above the sky There are robots and drones who takes care of everyone s needs There are strict rules to follow and a few choices to make Every year on Assignment Day the path of every 18 year olds life is laid out Some are given jobs and others are sent off to fight the war and never return The first 18 years of Seven life were filled with lies When assignment day comes for Seven the assignments shatter everything she ever believed in The rules force everyone to accept their fates but Seven decides to go against the Decision Makers wishes and does something that has never been done before I really enjoyed this book It is a real page turner I normally don t read books in this genre This is my first time reading a book like this and I found it to be gripping. I m not normally a sci fi fan but after a few pages I was interested Fast moving and entertaining and the characters seem so real It made one wonder if our world wouldn t someday be like this Great writing I received this ARC in return for an honest review Thank you to the author for providing me a free pdf in exchange for an honest review Actual Rating 5 Above the Sky takes place in a dystopian world If you just went just wait a minute and keep reading The book follows eighteen year old Seven, who lives in a world where everything is mapped out for them, from the job they have to do to the person they are supposed to marry and grow to love There are mundane jobs, and then there are warriors, specially chosen teenagers who go to fight in the War outside of their world and never return When Assignment Day comes, Seven s future is set, and she is forced to leave her best friend, Ten, behind That is, until she decides to go against the Decision Maker s wishes and carve her own path. The plot for this was so engaging In fact, I finished the entire book in one sitting, and guess who s now behind on writing college essays But anyways, the story was definitely a wild ride, and it was definitely unpredictable I know the idea of a strong heroine in a dystopian world has been quite painfully overdone, but this was a book that was completely unpredictable There are parts of this book that are extremely realistic, where the plot falls into contemporary, rather than a dystopian genre This, I felt, really strengthened the story itself, and I greatly enjoyed the gentle balance between something out of this world, and something very much present in it This blend is really something that sets this book apart from other YA novels. The writing style was extremely fluent and beautiful, and the author really painted such a clear picture of what the world looked like.I m going to quickly move on to the characters, because I feel like the characters an aspect of this book that really made it work There s none of that overused powerful rebellious uncontrollable trope used here Instead, we get a main character that is sensible and thoughtful, yet driven by the love and passion that makes her the hero she is Seven is a character that is so multi faceted and realistic, and I found it so easy to connect with her despite the different worlds we live in I just want to point out another aspect that sets her apart from every other dystopian heroine out there She was not the chosen one. There s none of that leader of a rebellion thing going on There s nothing about her being special, or one of a kind. She was just a normal girl, and the kind of strength we see isn t in how much power she seems to have in a revolution it s in the way she feels about her family and her friends, and it s in the way she thinks about her own future, and I think this is the type of subtle strength that we haven t seen enough of in literature What a beautiful way to show that strength is something that exists within. Would you like to read my book she says I ll send you a copy in exchange for a review she says What SHE didn t say is that the moment I started reading this book, I would be late for appointments, require my kids to pry my kindle from my hand for attention, that I would be so sucked into this story that every minute I wasn t reading it, my mind was still in the story as I mindlessly completed the tasks I wasn t able to get out of And that when I finally got time to finish the book she would leave Me Wanting More So what s it about It s a Dystopian Romance And here s the thing I ve read some of the big Dystopian books and enjoyed them, but dystopian books aren t normally my thing Yet it didn t matter Sure this is placed in a Totalitarian Environment where people aren t allowed to ask questions and at 18 you are sorted but that s where the similarities end And honestly, I don t want to tell you anything else about the story because I want you to be sucked into it like I was I want you to have to have the book or your Kindle pried out of your hand and for this book to leave you wanting I m serious Whether you love Dystopian novels or are just meh about them, this is quality writing, and even when I thought this story was taking me somewhere, I was wrong Again and again So I give this book 5 stars and I can t wait to read MORE I need MORE Oh, and I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
